Capoeira Regional academy in Salvador's historic centre (Pelourinho, near Terreiro de Jesus), the continuation of the first capoeira school, founded by Mestre Bimba (Manuel dos Reis Machado) in 1932 at Engenho de Brotas, Salvador, to teach his Luta Regional Baiana (capoeira regional). In 1937 the school was officially registered, the first such capoeira registration, under the name Centro de Cultura Física Regional. In 1942 Bimba opened his second school at Terreiro de Jesus as the Centro de Cultura Física e Regional da Bahia, renamed Associação de Capoeira Mestre Bimba in 1975 by his student Vermelho 27. It still teaches Capoeira Regional.
Wikipedia states Bimba founded the first capoeira school in 1932, called the Academia-escola de Cultura Regional, at Engenho de Brotas in Salvador. On 9 June 1937 he obtained the state education board certificate and officially registered the first capoeira centre; other sources describe the registration as made with the Secretaria de Educação, Saúde e Assistência Pública, with the school renamed Centro de Cultura Física Regional. In 1942 Bimba opened a second school at Terreiro de Jesus, when capoeira was still restricted, as the Centro de Cultura Física e Regional da Bahia; the sources call it his second school, and this record follows the school under its successive names as one institution. After he left Salvador he handed it to Vermelho 27, who renamed it Associação de Capoeira Mestre Bimba in 1975, the year after Bimba died. Lalaue names a Mestre Bamba, a student of Vermelho 27, as teacher there. The Almiro supervision link and the current leadership by Bamba come from the seed context and were not confirmed by the sources reached.
