Contra-Mestra Bruna Ferreira

Bruna Ferreira is a contra-mestra of Grupo Nzinga de Capoeira Angola, Salvador nucleus. She was born in Salvador, Bahia, and is active in the Alto da Sereia community in the Rio Vermelho neighborhood — a quilombola community where the Salvador nucleus of Instituto Nzinga (INCAB) has operated since 2001, under the joint leadership of Mestra Janja, Mestra Paulinha, and Mestre Poloca. She describes herself as "a black woman impacted by artistic and cultural actions since her insertion, as a child, into the Nzinga Institute of Capoeira Angola."

Beyond teaching, she works as a cultural organizer and musical arranger, and serves as communications coordinator for Cine Sereia, a Grupo Nzinga Salvador project that screens films for children and teenagers in Alto da Sereia, where she also works as a curator and workshop leader. She is a member of Igbadu – Orquestra de Berimbaus de Mulheres, a project launched during Julho das Pretas (Black Women's July) 2023 that brings together women capoeiristas of different generations, styles, ranks, and groups around the berimbau and percussion.

In 2024 she accompanied Mestra Janja on a capoeira workshop tour of Japan, teaching and performing in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo.
