Júlio França was the son and disciple of Mestre Cobrinha Verde (Rafael Alves França), one of the most respected capoeira masters of his era and cousin of the legendary Besouro Mangangá.
In May 1982, the newspaper A Tarde published a profile of the Bahian capoeira masters, reporting that Cobrinha Verde, then 70 years old and suffering from serious cardiac problems, was living at Júlio's home. The article described Júlio as "his disciple and a great capoeirista, who will forcefully replace him"—indicating that by 1982, Júlio was already an accomplished practitioner prepared to carry on his father's legacy.
This lineage is significant: through his father, Júlio França stands as a direct heir to the teachings that originated with Besouro Mangangá. Cobrinha Verde received his training from Besouro starting at age four and promised his dying cousin that he would teach capoeira freely, a promise he kept throughout his life.
What happened to Júlio after his father's death in May 1983 is not documented in available sources. Whether he continued teaching at his father's Centro Esportivo de Capoeira Angola Dois de Julho or elsewhere remains unknown.
